History of Laputa Domain, Kingdoms Mud

It was upon the advent of the Age of Steel that the woes of the Treflin people began. They were a peaceful people inhabiting the small island by that name. They knew little of war and cared only for the simple beauty of nature and of life. Raiding hordes from the southern lands came with their weapons and armours of steel to rape and pillage their fair land. For over 100 years the people knew nothing but misery and suffering. The people prayed to the Gods for relief but none came. The Gods refused to intervene as some of the raiders worshipped the evil Gods and thus there was no consensus amongst them, and any active intervention by a God sympathetic with the Treflin people would only be met by assistance to the raiders by the Evil Gods to compensate. Cor, the God of Goodness, wept at the plight of these good and innocent people, but was powerless to help them directly without fear of worse evils being levied upon them. And at the time of this saga the God Cor was so occupied with keeping the evil of the world at bay to exert his immense power against the evil which so outnumbered him would risk the whole of the world to the darkness. One day a young and lesser known minor deity named Sirone came to him and begged that he do something for the people of Treflin. Cor admonished him and explained that any intervention on his part or even one of his minions would only make their plight worse. Sirone persisted but, to no avail. Then Sirone asked if as a mortal he could intervene. Cor gasped at this, fore to be a mortal Sirone would have to be demoted and Sirone would have to accept mortality and could never again know immortality. Sirone explained that he could not accept an eternity with the pain of the Treflin people on his mind. Cor wept at the goodness within this young deity and said that he would demote him if it was his true desire. Cor, naturally, knew the answer before Sirone spoke it. And thus Sirone was reborne a mortal. Sirone was borne to a small land owner who was a devout worshipper of Cor. Cor so wanted him to succeed that he gave the infant Sirone knowledge of combat, strategy, weapons and armour. Sirone grew fast and strong. All the villagers of Trem,a small village of Treflin, remarked at his athleticism and lamented that it would only be sacrificed as a slave to the invading hordes. As Sirone matured he began to gather about him many a rebellious youth who wanted to stand and fight the hordes and risk the total destruction of their land and their people rather then freely giving them the fruits of their land and their loins. As more gathered about him and he trained the youth in the ways of war older citizens joined him. Among them were artisans and blacksmiths whom he taught to forge weapons and armours. As his followers grew in number and his reputation became known across the island he earned a name of honor amongst his followers, Trul Mesk du Cor, the steel fist of Cor. What was once a group became a band, what was once a band became an army, and what was an army became armies which would soon become legendary. When on the one hundreth and twentieth harvest came to Treflin since the age of steel, Sirone lead his armies to the coast to greet the coming invaders. The invaders were slaughtered, in part due to their ill preparation to meet an organized resistance upon the isle of Treflin, but to a greater extent due to the bravery and ability that Sirone had taught his people. More harvest came and more battles were won by the armies of Treflin. Sirone's success caused the leader of the southern hordes, Grul, to offer to the gods of evil one hundred thousand sacrifices if they would grant Gruls troops victory. The prize was so great and the Gods of evil hearts so dark that they agreed to grant him assistance despite the risk. They commanded Grul to gather his troops in long boats and to offer the sacrifice of the blood of a child upon the bow of each and they would grant the power of evil to each troop upon each boat. The troops were gathered, the blood spilled and the troops were filled with the power of evil. The legions of evil landed upon the shores of Treflin and war was raged as it had never been raged before. Despite the unholy blessing granted the hordes the out numbered and all but forsaken armies of Treflin increasingly gained victory if only a field at a time. Grul, whom for the first time since his youth had come to Treflin for battle, prayed to the gods of evil for more assistance. Many of the dark gods were increasingly becoming disatisfied with Grul's failures and feared risking Cor's knowledge of their assistance to the hordes with any further intervention. It was then that Cor, observing the prayers and laments of the hordes, realized the Dark interventions and confronted the Deities of Darkness. Knowing that even without their intervention the hordes would forever condemn the Treflin people to war and that their victories in battle would mean the death of their beauty as a people, Cor offered The Dark Deities an ultimatum; That the dark powers granted to the hordes be removed and that Grul and Sirone fight in one to one battle, if Sirone was the victor then the people of Treflin would be granted a new island in the clouds free from any further lament from the hordes or others. If Grul was the victor then the land and people of Treflin would forever belong to Grul and his descendents. heirs. The Dark Deities agreed, but secretely left Grul with the evil powers granted him. The mortal combat was engaged at first light and lasted til dusk. Despite Grul's evil powers Sirone's inner strength and ability proved stronger then the power of evil. Finally, Grul wounded and exhausted collapsed. Sirone stood over his fallen enemy, his sword at Grul's throat, and offered to spare his life and that of his army if he would withdraw Treflin and return all of the captives taken from Treflin. Grul accepted the terms, but as Sirone turned to face his armies to speak to them Grul stabbed Sirone in the back with a poisoned dagger. Cor infuriated beyond control opened the heavens and obliterated the remaining army of Grul. He created the cloud isle for the Treflin people and placed them upon their new land. Cor spoke to Sirone and offered to cleanse his system of the deadly poison that now left him all but dead as Grul layed in terror at the sight of the God of Goodness. Sirone however, wanted but one thing. That the people for whom he had sacriced all for be given some great symbol to kept them upon the true path so that they would never forget the sacrifices that were made by so many to secure their eventual happiness. As Sirone gasped his last breath, Cor turned to the the wounded cowering Grul and removed his soul with the evil blessing from the now empty corpse of Grul. Cor summoned forth a Demon Lord and invested Grul's soul within the summoned host. Cor, to honor Sirone's dying request, and to punish Grul imprisoned the the Demon Lord into a ring composed of ethereal. The ring would subject Grul to a virtual eternity of suffering, seeing and hearing the life of the Treflin people with the ability to return to this world always just out of reach. Cor gave this to the Treflin people and told them to use it as an eternal reminder of the sacrifices made to grant them this new paradise. The ring, having no end, represented infinity or a never ending struggle. The evil within represented the constant threat from evil if they did not maintain their vigilence against evil.
