Kristian Jebsens Limited "KJL" was incorporated in November 1985 in Hong Kong.
The company is established to provide professional shipping services to
worldwide shipowners and ship-operators. The principal activity of KJL is that
of shipbroking, cargo and shipping agents handling liner, bulk, breakbulk and
charter vessels of all nationalities. The key personnel of the company are fully
qualified, very well experienced and have a good background and knowledge of the
shipping industry, especially in the liner trade.
We have excellent contacts and cordial relations with the port and government
authorities, consignees, receivers, shippers and/or their forwarding agents in
Hong Kong and China. Our good relations with the various parties concerned not
only benefit ourselves to achieve the targeted results, but also provide
intelligent reports to our Principals.
Kristian Jebsens Limited is a related company to Jebsen Management AS, Bergen,
Norway, a Norwegian shipowning group of companies operating some 75 vessels
throughout the world. Apart from handling and marketing Jebsens bulk vessels in
Hong Kong and China, the company is also the Hong Kong and China representative
for the Port of Tacoma U.S.A., Washington State, and Kerr Norton Marine Inc.,
New Jersey.
Kristian Jebsens Limited had been heavily involved in the development of 3 liner
services namely:
| Knutsen Line | Pacific West Coast to Far East, West Australia to Far East and Japan to West Australia (9 vessels). |
| Jebsen Line | Australia/New Zealand/Pacific Islands to Far East, and Australia/New Zealand/Papua New Guinea to South East Asia and China (6 vessels). |
| Jordan Far East Line | Red Sea to Far East (3 vessels). |
The company is also participating in the freight forwarding business under a
separate entity - Fast Freight Limited. Through this operating unit we have a
stronghold in the Australian, New Zealand, Russian and The U.K. markets. The
volume of containers being handled is about 4,200 teus per annum. The port
representation maintains regular contacts with all the shipping lines, government
authorities and port officials in Hong Kong and China.
On the bulk shipping side, apart from being agents for Jebsens and a number of
overseas Principals, we are also sub-agents for China Ocean Shipping Agency
Company Shenzhen better known as "Penavico Shenzhen". Through these Principals,
we handle about 8 to 10 vessels a month in Hong Kong including providing port
captaincy service in various ports in China. Our staff regularly call on
shippers, consignees, forwarding agents and government authorities in China to
co-ordinate export and import cargoes and berthing arrangements. In addition,
Kristian Jebsens Limited maintains liaision offices in Shenzhen and Guangzhou,
as well as reliable agents throughout China, with facilities accessing to
various parts of the country.
We have a long association with China, as far back as July 1985. We secured
approval from the Ministry of Communications China for Jebsens to operate a
direct shipping service between New Zealand and China. This was the first
foreign shipping company ever operating regular liner shipping service to and
from China to country outside Asia.
In March 1989, our working team assisted Jordan National Shipping Lines Company
Limited, the National Shipping Company of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the
establishment of Jordan Far East Line between Far East and Red Sea with Cosco
Beijing. We were subsequently appointed general agent for Hong Kong and China.
We are very active with the port authorities and the container terminals in Hong
Kong and China, and work very closely with them on behalf of our Principals. We
also have a very good working relationship with the waterfront workers in Hong
Kong and China.
We have membership with a number of business associations and continue to be
active in these associations. Among others, we are members of New Zealand-
Hong Kong Business Association, The Norwegian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong,
The Australian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong, and The United States States
and Ports Association Hong Kong.
