Chaos Seed (Saturn): scenario 1 walk-through

Though I would not recommend the game to someone who cannot read Japanese, fine game it is, here is a walk-through for scenario 1. It is intended for someone who cannot read Japanese; one who can would not need a walk-through for scenario 1 at all, since it is intended to be the "lecture scenario".

You begin in a dungeon. Learn the different kinds of physical attacks, learn how to operate switches and teleportals, and other dungeon and combat basics. Retrieve the Cave Master's Scroll.

(Hint: the flying kick works only if you are close enough to an enemy. If not, you do a spin kick in place, which has no effect. Don't worry: the most important attacks are the medium attack and the large attack; the rest you can do OK without.)

After completing the dungeon, your teacher teaches you the cave construction basics, such as creating rooms, resources, doors, and Animals and transportation. When he asks you to make a corridor to the room to the right, do so. Then he will ask you to make a room. Just do that. After that, he teaches you how to channel energy to the Ryuketsuro; just channel some energy. Next, he tours you around the 8 rooms. Finally, he gives a somewhat long lecture on transporting Energy and Sentan by Animals.

(Some time within the last paragraph, your teacher asks multiple-choice questions about which color corresponds to which resource. You have to answer correctly to progress.)

After that, you have to complete two lessons. Enemies won't appear in these lessons, so they are quite easy.

Lesson 1: Fill the Ryuketsuro with 1000 energy within 10 turns. Just make one or two Production Rooms over nice concentration(s) of energy resources (yellow). Press A+L to 'fast forward' the time. In a few turns, you will have enough energy to clear the lesson.

(Note: a resource would count towards a room even if it is covered by the walls of the room. A room with no resources produces 20 energy and 2 Sentan per turn. Each resource increases production by 10 energy or 1 Sentan. Then the sum is subject to multipliers from improvements such as Energy Production and Sentan Production. Note also that some rooms, such as the Sentan Room, consume 30 energy per turn, and with no resources would run out of energy in a couple of turns even without any improvements, unless supplied with transported energy.)

Lesson 2: Repair the destroyed Production Room, and fill the Ryuketsuro with 1000 energy. Do the followings in sequence:

1a. Get some Sentan from the Sentan Room.
1b. Go to the Summoning Room and summon some Animal that is capable of repairing, such as a Rooster or a Horse.
1r. During the next Reckoning phase, set a route for the Animal through the Production Room.
2+. Summon some Animals that can transport Sentan (Dragons are best). Have them transport the Sentan from the Sentan Room to the Production Room. Improve the Energy Production in the Production Room. In a few turns, you will have enough energy to clear the lesson.

That's all for scenario 1. The choices at the end do not affect the ending so far as the "clear percentage" is concerned. If you still get stuck but you think you understand the game, you can skip scenario 1 for the moment and head right into scenario 2.

The "General Game Flow" section in my review article actually refers to scenario 2 of the Saturn version (which is scenario 1 in the SFC version). If you are lost as to what to do in scenario 2, please refer to that section of the article. Scenario 2 can be quite short, so all you really need to do is to make some Production Rooms and improve them. You don't have to worry about Fung-shui or items.

As a side note, the puzzle dungeons can be quite difficult for beginners. Wait until you have some experience with cave construction before tackling them.
