15 December 98

Another day, another province. This time I found myself in Changchun, Jilin. First stop was Nanhu Park where workers were carving out large slabs of ice from the frozen lake. They were probably preparing for some sort of ice sculpture festival. Had lunch and then went to the nearby Changchun Film Studio.

While I was on the train to Jilin city, the young lady sitting next to me asked if I was a professional photographer.  I told her I was just backpacking through the country.  She turned out to be an Art student at Jilin Teachers' College.

The 2 weeks I stayed in Jilin were spent visiting Beishan Park,  Longtanshan Park, the Catholic church and the meteor museum.  I had even taken a short guitar course to kill time while I waited for the weather to turn cold.  Unfortunately, I never saw the ice rimmed trees or mist on the Songhua River.
